Now Sit Back And Watch The White House "Spin" This

Do you ever wonder why people in power don't speak the truth? Sit back and watch what happens when someone who was in the center of it all says the public secret out loud for all to hear.

Without elaborating, Alan Greenspan states:

"I am saddened that it is politically inconvenient to acknowledge what everyone knows: the Iraq war is largely about oil."

Now let's sit back and watch the spin-meisters do their thing.

.........

On the other hand, why is Mr. Greenspan saying this right now?

Of Course it is good for book sales. Could it also be related to the unwinding of the economy and his need to point the finger elsewhere?

My own personal sense is that the best way for Mr. Greenspan to have made this statement would be to have also added that he knew it while it was all developing and in spite of that he chose to remain silent and let the mistake, the whole mistake, take place with his silent complicity.

Yes, unfortunately, I do. This is one of my largest challenges in life. It drags me toward cynicism. Those in power should be models and examples. They should lead rather than rule. I expect more from them. One of Greenspan's statements is definitely true: "They swapped principle for power."

"Civil Service" just isn't what it used to be. There's too much money making the decisions these days. In my American Policy and Environmental policy classes we talked about "the public good", those things that benefit everyone (ie Clean air), but these things are rapidly becoming infringed upon and I think, "Public/Civil service" is one of those that is becoming extinct.

I could not afford to work at the community center if I did not have a spouse with a well-paying job. It almost feels like I had to marry up just so I could break even on my intentions to do good in the world and not die broke and bitter about it.

Paul and Proxima:

Yes and Yes.

I know I am beginnnig to sound like too much of a grump but the system in Wasington is sick; it has the appearance of rosy cheeks but it covers the deceit beneath.

And, and, and...of course congress doesn't work...they are "beseiged" by determined warriors representing both for profit companies and for non-profit companies.

The moat is neither wide enough or deep enough. Even if it were, the wanna be rainmakers would rain manna-money down from hot air baloons with not so hidden requests for favors covertly velcroed to each piece of pseudo-manna.

Hope for the future is in the individual. Not the milllion points of light that make the system seem brighter, but the million points of light that show the rosiness of the individuals cheeks matching their inner light...to join the light of others.
